Gross / Large Motor

Children 12-18 months generally are able to do the following:

Standing:

  • Bends/squats down to pick something up and can return to a standing position
  • Stands up on own and takes steps forward
  • Climbs onto large climbing blocks/furniture 
  • Stands on tiptoes to reach something 
  • Pushes and pulls large toys 
  • Rolls a ball back and forth

Walking:

  • Walks without assistance and falls seldomly
  • Begins to run stiffly 
  • Pulls toys behind them while walking
  • Uses both arms to carry large objects while walking 
  • Throws a small ball with forward arm
