Literacy
Children 12-18 months generally are able to do the following:
- Participates in activities such as “peek a boo”, “so big”, “bye bye”
- Looks at the object when you say “Look at the…”
- Tells you they want an object by pointing at it
- Enjoys playing independently near peers
- Imitates the way other children play
- Responds to own name (e.g., comes to caregiver)
- Engages when called and participates when singing songs (e.g., “Head, shoulders, knees and toes”)
- Turns book right side up
- Begins to participate in book reading (e.g., repeating sounds and words, holding book, touching pictures)
- Begins matching some animal noises to the correct animal
