Literacy
Children 19-24 months generally are able to do the following:
- Identifies body parts
- Hums along or uses some words to sing along to songs
- Identifies which item in a book, a ball for example, is smaller or bigger
- Notices a special song used for clean up time
- Demonstrates an interest in letters (e.g., singing ABC’s, alphabet books, toys with letters)
- Engages in rhyming song and games
- Chooses and brings favorite book to an adult to read repeatedly
- Points to pictures when named
- Imitates adults making a mark on paper
- Consistently matches the animal noise to the correct animal when prompted
