Literacy

Children 19-24 months generally are able to do the following:

  • Identifies body parts
  • Hums along or uses some words to sing along to songs
  • Identifies which item in a book, a ball for example, is smaller or bigger
  • Notices a special song used for clean up time 
  • Demonstrates an interest in letters (e.g., singing ABC’s, alphabet books, toys with letters) 
  • Engages in rhyming song and games 
  • Chooses and brings favorite book to an adult to read repeatedly  
  • Points to pictures when named 
  • Imitates adults making a mark on paper 
  • Consistently matches the animal noise to the correct animal when prompted
