Children 19-24 months generally are able to do the following:

• Begins to sort shapes and colors 
• Tries to fit objects into other objects (e.g., fits together cups or bowls, completes simple puzzles, puts rocks into holes) 
• Follows in, out, up, down directions 
• Points to or gives the larger of two items when asked 
• Gives one item/object when requested (e.g., “can I have a Goldfish?”)  
• Uses some number words in addition to naming age (e.g., 2 birds, 1 chair)
