Functional
Children 24-30 months generally are able to do the following:
- Objects to major change in routine
- Says “no” but will still do what was asked
- Puts things away in correct place using sorting techniques
- Mirrors real life activities during imaginative play (e.g., putting food items in bag as if leaving a store)
- Explores objects by poking or prodding; may take things apart to see how they work
- Sustains attention to a preferred single activity (excluding screen time) for 5 minutes despite distraction or interruption
- Initiates creative activities (e.g., asks to paint or color, makes up unique dances to music, sings made up melodies)
- Compromises a verbal direction in order to problem solve (e.g., uses hurried walk when told to use walking feet instead of running)
