Children 24-30 months generally are able to do the following:
- Plays make-believe with dolls, animals, and people (e.g., rock it, feed it, change it, put it to bed)
- Expresses increasingly complex emotions (e.g., showing frustration when trying to put on a jacket)
- Child calls self “I” or “me” more often than using own name. (e.g.,: Says “ I do it” instead of “Juanita do it”)
- Separates more easily from parents
- Take turns with other children with support of an adult
- Waits a short time (1-2 minutes) to get needs met with some adult guidance
- Uses language to control what happens to self (e.g., “no nap”, “me first”, “stop”, “mine”)
- Follows rules by imitating actions of other children
- Physically moves or makes room for another child while playing/during an activity
