Gross / Large Motor

Children 30-36 months generally are able to do the following:

  • Independently walks to navigate their environment 
  • Runs and jumps with 2 feet leaving the floor
  • Climbs stairs in a standing position without support  
  • Uses a tot-sized playground such as small slides, simple ladders, wiggle bridges, etc.
  • Throws a ball overhand while standing 
  • Catches a ball by trapping 
  • Kicks a stationary ball
  • Balancing skills including squats to pick up toys from the floor, stands on tiptoes to reach overhead, maintains kneeling while playing
  • Experiments with different ways to move: walks across the room, increases pace to fast walk, walks backwards, and marches
