Literacy
Children 42-48 months generally are able to do the following:
- Recognizes their name in print and can identify some letters in their name
- Enjoys listening to longer books and stories. Children can pick up a book and describe what is on each page
- Fills in the missing rhyming words
- Shows awareness of separate words in sentences
- Identifies sounds of a few letters
- Retells familiar stories and recounts major events
- Asks and answer questions about text by referring to the pictures
