Literacy
Children 48-60 months generally are able to do the following:
- Enjoys reading books and may have some simple books memorized
- Understands that some words begin the same way
- Begins to match beginning sounds to words
- Understands words are made up of separate syllables
- Identifies 10 letters of the alphabet
- Produces 10-20 letters sounds correctly
- Knows some features of a book (e.g., title, author)
- Decides if two words rhyme
- Identifies story related events, problems, resolutions
- Sequences major events and characters in a story without pictures
