Gross / Large Motor

Children 5-6 years old generally are able to do the following:

  • Walks up stairs placing one foot on each step without support (and/or holding an object in two hands) and down the stairs placing one foot on each step
  • Stands on one foot for more than 8 seconds, 
  • Jumps forwards 10 times without falling 
  • Skips after demonstration 
  • Hangs from a bar for at least 5 seconds, throw a ball overhand and underhand stepping forward with same foot as throwing hand
  • Catches a small ball with hands only 
  • Pumps and maintain momentum on a swing 
  • Climbs the rungs of a playground ladder
