Children 8-12 months generally are able to do the following:
- Shows specific preferences for certain people and toys
- Prefers regular care provider over all others
- Explores the world using body and senses
- Seeks interaction with people and objects to satisfy curiosity
- Relates common objects with routine events (e.g., diaper for diaper changes, pacifier for naptime)
- Imitates facial expressions and simple gestures
- Searches for caregiver or toy when partially hidden
- Explores environment while utilizing new skills confidently (e.g., finding objects and putting in mouth even if not edible)
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of cause and effect (e.g., pressing button for musical toy or shaking noise bottle to hear noise)
- Raises arms while being lifted out of highchair/stroller
- Explores sensory experiences with enthusiasm, showing little hesitation
