Gross / Large Motor
Children 8-12 months generally are able to do the following:
Gross Motor:
- Sits independently
- Gets to a sitting position without assistance
- Gets from sitting to crawling or prone (lying on stomach) position
- Lowers self from furniture without flopping or falling
Crawling:
- Crawls forward on belly
- Assumes hand and knee position
- Creeps on hands and knees
- Crawls/cruises on hands and knees
Standing:
- Pulls self up to standing position
- Holds onto rail in standing position without resting chest on it
- Stands momentarily without support
- Leans down to pick up object from standing position, then stands back up
Walking:
- Walks while holding furniture
- Walks holding on to furniture with one hand
- May walk two or three steps without support
- Proforms throwing motion with balls or toys
