Literacy

Children 8-12  months generally are able to do the following:

• May recognize pictures of certain objects when they are named
• Imitates reading-like gestures while exploring board books 
• Interacts while adult is reading, singing, telling stories 
• Enjoys interacting with picture books (e.g., turning pages, lifting flaps, pointing to pictures) 
• Reacts to a picture of a family member or pet (e.g., smiling, touching photo)
